- It's 60 g Butter.
- Prepare 100-150 g Sugar.
- You need 1 Egg.
- Prepare 120 g Plain flour.

- You need 1 tsp Baking powder (or baking soda).
- It's 90 ml Buttermilk (or 80 ml Milk + 10 ml Vinegar).
- You need 90 ml Hot water.
Chocolate cake step by step
- This is the ingredients. If you don't have buttermilk, mix milk and vinegar before measuring other ingredients. (Or simply use milk/yogurt.). If you prefer strong cocoa flavour, use baking powder rather than baking soda..
- Spread oil in a cake tin. Preheat oven at 170℃..
- Soften butter with room temperature (or use microwave low power for 1 minute). Put butter and half sugar into a bowl and mix well..
- Add eggs and rest of sugar and mix until smooth..
- Shift flour, cocoa powder and baking powder together into the bowl in two additions, alternating with buttermilk..
- Add hot water bit by bit and mix well..
- Pour the batter into a cake tin. Bake it in the 170℃ oven for 35-40 minutes..
- Check with a stick, if it's dry, it's done! (or touch sponge lightly if it bounce back.) Once it's cooled down, enjoy with your favourite icing!.
