- You need 1 lb apples (sour if possible).
- It's 4 oz sultanas.
- You need 6 oz butter/soft margarine.
- It's 12 oz self raising flour.
- You need 1 tsp ground ginger.
- Prepare 6 oz sugar.
- It's 3 eggs.

- Peel, core and grate apples.
- Mix flour, ginger and butter / margarine together until it resembles crumbs.

- Mix until well combined.
- Grease and line a 2 lb loaf tin, pour mixture in, level top..
- Bake at 180C for 1 hour, until a skewer / toothpick comes out clean..
- Allow to cool in tin for 10 minutes then tip out on to wire rack to cool..
- Serve. Can be served warm or cold.
- You can substitute ground cinnamon for the ginger..
